‘Law & Order: SVU’ season 16: Looking ahead through repeats (part 2)

Law & Order: SVU logoRemember last week? NBC aired two episodes of “Law & Order: SVU,” and thanks to fans working hard to ensure that #SVURepeats was a trending topic, showrunner Warren Leight was kind enough to share a script tease of a scene featuring Mariska Hargitay’s Benson.

This article is a notice / reminder that you can do the same thing again this coming Sunday night. The first episode at 9:00 p.m. Eastern will be “Comic Perversion,” the episode that featured a standup comic telling jokes about rape, only to have some of his fans later commit an assault. This is following at 10:00 by a “Chicago PD” episode that features Fin and Rollins. This is the sort of crossover event that you can expect more of in season 16 of “SVU,” and then also both “Chicago Fire” and “Chicago PD.” Dick Wolf has a new trio of shows now to work with, and while it may take some navigating now to bring characters from Chicago to New York and vice-versa, it can still definitely work.

In the end, be sure to check out the episodes live, and trend the hashtag. If you do, you may get another tease at the road ahead. We have to give whoever thought of this idea on the staff some brownie points, as well, since this is effective use of social media. The producers can show the network that they are drawing social traffic online for a repeat (and draw pretty nice ratings to boot), and fans get something in return for their own efforts lending a helping hand. It’s still hard to measure the true impact on social media for a TV show, but this is at least one of the smarter uses for it.
