‘Switched at Birth’ season 3, episode 16 shocker: Did Angelo live or die?
Going into tonight’s “Switched at Birth” season 3 episode, there were constant questions about the fate of Angelo. Was the character going to make it through “The Image Disappears,” or tragically pass away? The answer is below, but obviously there are some HUGE spoilers ahead. Don’t read on if you haven’t watched the episode yet.
In the end, the show did something that very much surprised us given that we mostly think of this show as hopeful and fairly lighthearted: Angelo passed at the end of the episode, and this seemingly ends the time for Gilles Marini on the show. This was more than sad; this was devastating to the families and also fans of the show.
Marini after the end of the episode shared a post on his Twitter account, thanking everyone already for all of the messages that they were sending after the episode aired on the East Coast:
“Overwhelming reaction of all the super Fans of #switchedatbirth . I thank You from the bottom of my heart! Tearing reading all your comments”
This event is obviously going to be the sort of thing that will completely change the entire series moving forward, given the status of Angelo as a father figure to some of the characters. Unfortunately, sometimes you need to experience tragedy in order for characters move forward, and if there is something Bay, Daphne, and the rest of the cast can take from this, it is that they must have to learn to deal with tragedy and adversity.
Hopefully, we’ll get a chance to see Marini in something else on TV soon.

I was very surprised and saddened to see Gilles Marini killed off in the series. He was just beginning to develop into a strong character and become a real father to both of the girls. It is a shame the producers felt it necessary to cut him from the cast, but they kept D W Moffatt alive after his heart attack. Gilles is a lovely young man, and he is delightful to watch with his charm, beauty and wonderful warmth. I hope they can bring him back in ghost form or flashbacks, but I would like to see him with his own show. The last episode was heartbreaking to watch, especially if you have lived and suffered through a personal loss, and I cried, from the way the show was written and for the painful memories it brought to mind. Bonne chance, Gilles and Adieu et reposez en paix, Angelo.

I guess I am the first one to make a comment here. I was very shocked after the character played by Giles Marni would really start to really become more a part of the cast. When his character died in tonight’s episode. I cried. I lost my own mother this time last year so I guess that really it hard. Still. Mr. Marni will be missed on Switched At Birth. I wish the writers would not have taken him off the show.
