Brooks Wheelan ‘fired’ from ‘Saturday Night Live’; sad?
“Saturday Night Live” is apparently already in the process of cleaning house before the fall season, and the ax has fallen on someone many predicted would be saying farewell: Brooke Wheelan.
In a post on Twitter, the comic / actor tried to make light of the fact that he was no longer a part of the cast … even though there is probably no real way that you can do so:
“Had a blast and loved every second of it. I’m totally honored to be able to make this next joke… FIRED FROM NEW YORK IT’S SATURDAY NIGHT!”
The problem with Brooks started first of all with Lorne Michaels choosing to hire so many young, white male actors at the start of the season, which limited the opportunities that he had to do anything on the show. As a matter of fact, the only things that we can remember him doing were his bits as “himself” during “Weekend Update,” him being himself on “Celebrity Family Feud,” and also him playing Jared Leto in one sketch.
The sad thing here is that we’re still very bummed out to see him go. Brooks seemed to be a nice guy, and he does still seem in good spirits despite seeing what was arguably a dream job for him go away. Luckily, only having one year of experience on “SNL” doesn’t doom you. Just ask Robert Downey Jr., Chris Elliott, Gilbert Gottfried, Christopher Guest, Anthony Michael Hall, Laurie Metcalf, Rob Riggle, Martin Short, Sarah Silverman, Jenny Slate, Ben Stiller, or Damon Wayans. All of them did just fine after leaving the show.
Still, are you sad to see Brooks off the show, and do you wish he had more time? Share your thoughts with a comment? Also, click here to get some more news worth laughing about via our CarterMatt Newsletter.

I thought that he showed tremendous potential. Co-wrote the “12 years a slave” sketch, one of season’s best. Weekend Update bits were hysterical. His tweets (even before firing) are clever, quick and very funny. He was unusually handsome for SNL in a classic way.
If he’s cast in the right role in a sitcom or movie, he could be big.

I thought it was curious that SNL hired 5 or 6 male and only 1 female featured talent. I think most of those guys will be gone.
I hope the keep Beck Benett-he had those funny commercials with those kids in those US Cellular commercials
