‘Doctor Who’ season 8 spoilers: Olympics writer signs on for episode
How can you write the Olympics? Well, you can be the person responsible for penning the Opening Ceremony, and that is precisely what children’s novelist Frank Cottrell Boyce did in 2012. He had the honor of being the creative voice behind one of the biggest events in the history of London, and now it has been confirmed that he recently had the honor of doing another great task: Writing an episode of “Doctor Who” season 8.
In a statement, Boyce said the following about getting the gig, and the overall feeling of joy that he got contributed to the world of this show:
“Of all the thrills that pen and paper have brought into my life, there’s nothing that quite compares to the buzz of unlimited possibility that rushes through your fingers and into your brain when you write the words: ‘Interior … TARDIS’ … I was flabbergasted to be asked to write an episode – partly because I’ve been so absorbed in the last few series that I’d sort of forgotten that it wasn’t real.”
Given Boyce’s daily occupation, it only feels appropriate that this episode would feature a chorus of young actors including Harley Bird, Abigail Eames (Harry And Paul, The Crimson Field), Ashley Foster (The Woman In Black) and Jaydon Harris-Wallace. Hopefully, these youngsters will team with Peter Capaldi for something great.
Showrunner Steven Moffat also chimed in on the Boyce hire with the following:
“Frank’s script is pure magic – and everything I could have hoped for from the genius behind the Olympics opening ceremony!! Doctor Who is born anew in the mind of a genius!”
In what is clear evidence that this is a big week for all things “Doctor Who,” this is not even close to the biggest announcement of the week, you can find out more of what is over at this link, courtesy of a new teaser video.
