‘American Horror Story: Freak Show’ spoilers: Sarah Paulson’s request

Those of you trying to find details right now when it comes to “American Horror Story: Freak Show” are probably being hit with one wall after another. This is not a show that leaks out much, and the last major announcement was many months ago, when it was revealed that Michael Chiklis was going to be joining the cast.

What we have today is not an announcement on that level, but a revelation that Sarah Paulson is going to be playing a character for the new season that is in some ways her own choosing. Speaking to the Los Angeles Times in a new interview, Paulson said that she “made a request” to co-creator Ryan Murphy during the process of preparing for the season, and he obliged and gave her what she asked for.

As for what this “something” is, we are hoping that it is along the lines of a villain for a change. Whether it is playing Lana or Cordelia, the past two seasons in particular have relegated Paulson to roles that are the demure heroine, and someone who has to stand against women played by Jessica Lange. What if she was the evil force for a change that needed to be stopped? This time, we know that Lange is playing a proprietor of a freak show in Jupiter, Florida, and many of the other characters are going to be housed within that in some way. At first the show was gearing up to be more comedic like this past season “Coven,” but that has changed to become something that is more dark and serious.
