MTV’s ‘Awkward’ season 4, episode 8 review: Who did Tamara hook up with?

“Awkward” has certainly traveled in some awkward directions over the past few weeks, but the last episode “After Hours” set us back on course with a number of surprises. Matty and Jake got arrested, and Jenna realized that she she may really like her college boyfriend Luke, there were still feelings there for Matty.

We were curious to see how in the world the guys were going to get out of this situation, but they ended up having some help from an unlikely ally: Sadie. She decided to give them some very interesting advice when it comes to how they should actually tell the cops that they were minors, and they could get out of the situation.

Is the most surprising story of the entire episode Tamara’s? Given how badly things have gone with Jake, that she is young, and that she has not been satisfied in certain aspects of her personal life in a long time, we’re not that shocked that she hooked up with a woman while at the university. It doesn’t feel like she is actually a lesbian, though, so much as it was just a one-time fling. This sort of thing does happen on TV shows from time to time; just look, for example, of what happened on “Glee” with Quinn and Santana back during the fourth season.

As for the Jenna story, she firmly decided that she was with Luke, and made a big step when it comes to Matty: She didn’t want to help him anymore. Instead, she decided to allow Eva to handle the problem on her own. This may have irked some fans, but it was time. If these two are to get back together someday, it needed to happen in a different way given Matty’s behavior so far this season. Episode Grade: B.
