‘Game of Thrones’ season 4, episode 7 review: Tyrion’s champion; Lysa’s moondoor shocker
On tonight’s episode of “Game of Thrones,” there were some genuinely sweet moments. There were also surprises, and finally a use for the story with Pod and Brienne!
We’re going to actually start there, because there was finally something interesting that happened with the two parties as they became among the few to learn that Arya Stark is still alive. It was none other than Hot Pie who revealed the news to them, and now, they have a lead.
As for some other highlights from Westeros and beyond…
King’s Landing – For Tyrion, this was mostly a battle of survival, and with his back up against the wall, the youngest sibling of Cersei got a little bit lucky that someone whose motivations lined up with his own. Prince Oberyn wanted revenge on those who have wronged him, and that starts with The Mountain … otherwise known as Cersei’s champion.
So the Viper and the Mountain sounds like a pretty awesome pay-per-view event.
Meereen – Dany apparently is in a good mood! At least that is what Daario claims. We imagine that the two must have slept together, but it happened off-screen. Instead,we got a good scene of Jorah proving himself to be her true top adviser, and he convinced her to show a little bit of mercy.
The Eyrie – Robin is such a snotty little kid, no? Him kicking over Sansa’s snow sculpture over its lack of a moondoor was completely ridiculous, but it set up a pretty fun conversation between her and Littlefinger regarding why he decided to kill Joffrey: Revenge. Then, he kissed her, and things went from bad to worse and Lysa tried to throw her into the moondoor.
In the end, it was Lysa herself that was tossed down by Littlefinger in the biggest surprise of the whole night. This was all part Baelish’s plan, whatever that plan may be for now. It’s a little hard ultimately to know every finer detail of it.
Dragonstone – Outside of a heart-to-heart with Melisandre and Stannis’ wife, what was this? This remains our least favorite story of the season for a very specific reason: We’re constantly waiting for more results.
Overall, a very strong episode of the show, and if you forget the Dragonstone stuff, we’d argue that it was equally excellent to what we had last week. What a way to set up the final few episodes! Grade: A.
