‘Orphan Black’ season 2, episode 5 review: Sarah and Leekie make a deal
Last week on “Orphan Black” we saw Sarah left in a precarious position as we saw crazy Helena swoop in as her savior from Rachel’s monitor, but Helena wasn’t only there to help… she needs help as well.
This week things only got worse for all of the clones… except Rachel who got herself a new monitor in Paul. So, if you were one of the fans hoping for a Paul/Sarah end game it’s not looking so good right now, especially after he forced Felix’s fingerprints on a murder weapon and threatened to turn him over to the police if Sarah didn’t give him what he wanted: Sarah on a silver platter.
Helena was being babysat by Art while Sarah tried to clean up some of this mess, but as we all know Helena is resourceful and she quickly escaped her cuffs and flipped the script on Art as she escaped once again. Her mission? To kill Rachel. When Sarah and Art show up to stop her (and witness Paul and Rachel hooking up), she is able to talk Helena out of shooting Rachel.
Cosima learned that there was a stem cell match for her that Leekie was withholding from her research with Delphine, and not only that but she is told that the original genome was destroyed in a fire. Leekie decides to go against Rachel’s wishes (to withhold treatment from Cosima until she gives up information about Sarah) and starts treatment. To thank Leekie for going against Rachel’s wishes, she has Sarah agree to meet up with him and share information: that Profession Ethan Duncan (who was said to have died in the lab fire and is Rachel’s father) is alive. Leekie and Sarah strike a deal – Leekie will continue giving Cosima treatment and have Felix released of any charges if Sarah finds out where Duncan is.
What we loved about this episode more then anything else was the moments between Sarah and Helena where you could see how much they actually care for each other even though they are so different. Hearing Sarah call her a “meat head” and Helena responding with “don’t call me this” as they walked away arm in arm was touching. We want more of this! Only downfall of this episode… no Allison. Episode Grade: A-
