‘Once Upon a Time’ season 3 spoilers: More on ‘Kansas,’ Dorothy’s arrival

There are so many reasons to be interested in the upcoming “Once Upon a Time” episode entitled “Kansas,” with the biggest one obviously being that this hour is going to mark the arrival of Dorothy on the show for the first time. Despite our initial theories, this character is going to actually be a real person, and not just a twist where one of the established characters happens to turn out to be her.

ABC released the official synopsis for this episode yesterday, and there are a few interesting details in here when it comes to what to expect:

“With Mary Margaret in labor and due to give birth at any moment, the residents of Storybrooke go on high alert in an attempt to ensure that Zelena doesn’t try to steal her newborn baby for use in her ultimate game plan to turn back time and change her destiny — while obliterating Regina’s existence. Meanwhile, in the land of Oz of the past, Glinda tries to convince Zelena to fight her evil tendencies and join her and her sister witches as a protector of Oz. But the appearance of a young girl from Kansas could turn out to be her undoing.”

For those of you who are curious, Dorothy is going to be played by Matreya Scarrwener, a relative newcomer who has appeared in “The Killing” and also a number of short films. At the moment, her long-term status is to be determined, but this is definitely a great get to play someone who is this iconic … even if she is not a major character on this show.
