‘Doctor Who’ season 8 notes: John Hurt and Matt Smith stories

The latest -While you wait for more “Doctor Who” news to come out, and it may be a while given that the new season isn’t slated to premiere until late summer at the earliest, why not share a few assorted highlights of what is going on in the world of the show?

John Hurt’s plea – We begin with the War Doctor himself in Hurt, who recently appeared on the show’s 50th anniversary special. In the video below (source), he makes a passionate and fun plea to encourage some voting for the show at the BAFTAs. Many of our British favorites were given the shaft by the organization, but at least this series is up for a fan prize for its seventh season (plus its array of specials at the end of last year).

Hopefully, we’ll have a chance to see Hurt again at some point in the series. His role was small compared to other doctors, but still fantastic nonetheless.

Matt Smith – Meanwhile, our most-recent doctor has retired his own position to return at some point in the future … even if we don’t expect to actually see him in the flesh during season 8.

While at a new convention (per Doctor Who TV), Matt claimed that he would happily come back for the next anniversary special of the show. He also had the following quote about working with David Tennant that we consider to be most delightful:

“It was a real historic moment for me. I always look at David and go, ‘Oh my god. It’s Doctor Who! … David is a great guy and a good friend. It was so fun. Doctors in the same room is just magic, isn’t it!”
