ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 4 spoilers: Tony Goldwyn on what’s next for Fitz, Olivia
The “Scandal” season 4 finale at times definitely contained plenty of sadness and despair. There were around a billion or so things going on, but one of the hardest to shake was seeing Fitz lose his son Jerry, even if he ended up winning the Presidential election in a sympathy ploy because of it. Rowan took something from him, even if Fitz doesn’t know he is the guilty party.
From the standpoint of the Fitz / Olivia relationship (given that this is also a substantial part of the story), one of the other elements here that the character must contend with now is the fact that seemingly, the love of his life is gone. Kerry Washington’s character left on a jet plane with Scott Foley’s Jake, unsure if she’ll be back again. (Start the rousing rendition of the song if you choose.) Does this mean that Fitz and Olivia are over? In his comments to TV Guide, Tony Goldwyn definitely doesn’t see it that way:
“…The only thing in Fitz’s life that he’s certain of is that Olivia is his soul mate. He’s never going to give up on that. The man has a lot to deal with: the loss of his son, his relationship with his wife now being so complex and changed because he found out about that his father raped Mellie and he’s going to have to take care of her, and they have to grieve together as a family and survive this, and he has to take on a second term as president. But none of that changes what he knows to be true about him and Olivia, so I think he’ll fight forever. He’s not going to take this sitting down.”
Granted, the issue for Fitz is going to be finding the time to make a move happen. The guy’s got a lot going on right now! Andrew is the new Vice-President, he has to figure out whether or not his relationship with Mellie can be stabilized, and you have to think that he will hit the trail hard to find out what happened to Jerry. This could be the crux of the Olivia / Fitz story next season, since he would try to hurt someone in his life just like Rowan destroyed someone close to the President.

Season 3 was so dark. I hope season 4 gives back old scandal. Please bring Olivia back. Leave jake-drop him off the plane. I don’t care which. I am hoping that Olivia is smart enough to figure out that it was her dad and comes back to get him.
