‘Dancing with the Stars’ 18 results: Did Cody Simpson, Candice Cameron Bure survive Disney Week?

HereTonight’s “Dancing with the Stars” episode was in some ways fun and whimsical. After all, it was Disney Week! ABC’s parent companies had to love all the brand integration, and to us the biggest surprise here was mostly that the show hadn’t done something like this further. Given all of the other properties Disney owns now, we certainly wouldn’t be shocked if there are people running around in superhero costumes next time around for Marvel Week.

But unfortunately for the dancers, even Disney movies have sad parts sometimes. (Just think back to what happened to Mufasa in “The Lion King.”) For Cody Simpson and Candice Cameron Bure, their sad moment came in being in jeopardy. Are we surprised? Hardly. One of them is a former TV star who hasn’t been in the headlines much at all. Meanwhile, the other is a teen heartthrob singer whose primary audience does not watch the ballroom competition.

However, at the end of the day, Cody’s time was up. The reality here is that he was not the worst performer of the night by a long stretch, and nor was he the least-talented. The issue is that with this show most of the time, it revolves around so much more than just performance quality. It’s also about fan followings, and who is popular in particular with the people who watch this show. Most of the viewers for this show are older, and they support people who they regularly watch on TV, who have an excellent story, or are simply the best overall dancers. If you fall into the middle of the pack and don’t excel at any of these, you’re in trouble.
