‘Doctor Who’: Karen Gillan reflects on final scene with Matt Smith

The latest -Doctor Who” is a show that tries very hard to mask some of its secrets, and we have to give them some applause especially for how they managed to keep us in the dark on one particularly notable shocker recently: The big reveal that Karen Gillan had come back to play Amy Pond in the Christmas Special last year. Somehow, nobody knew about this, and it was one of the big jaw-dropping moments prior to the regeneration of the 11th Doctor into the 12th (played by Peter Capaldi).

As you would imagine, this was just an even stranger experience for Gillan to film than it was for everyone watching it all unfold from home. Just take a look, for example, at what she had to say in a new Entertainment Weekly interview:

“It was such a surreal experience because those were three very important years of my life on that TV show and then to go back and be on someone else’s TARDIS was a really weird sensation … [I was] sort of… on the outside looking in. But also knowing that life is okay after you leave Doctor Who.

“It was just a really interesting experience and important to me that I was there for Matt’s final moments in character.”

Karen is clearly doing more than fine with her career now, being that she stars in the new movie “Oculus” and also plays a part in the big-budget movie “The Guardians of the Galaxy.” These are two projects that “Doctor Who” likely helped her to achieve, and it shows that there is great life beyond just being on this BBC series.

Both Smith and Gillan remain close friends, and they do even attend many conventions together. Just recently, they were even both on hand to witness a proposal during a photo op event. You can see that video below, and to get more news related to “Doctor Who,” just be sure to click here.
