ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 3 finale to get ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ aftershow treatment
Does Jimmy Kimmel really like “Scandal“? It may be wrong for us to wonder this, but for whatever reason, we continually see him getting shoehorned into doing more aftershow programming for the Shonda Rhimes drama than any other network late-night show out there. While we have seen David Letterman talk to someone like Josh Charles in the wake of his (spoiler alert!) departure from “The Good Wife,” this is a little bit different.
It has been confirmed that following the “Scandal” finale next week, there will be an hour-long special of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” that is entirely all about the hit show. This will include an interview with the show’s creator Shonda Rhimes, behind-the-scenes goodies, and also the conclusion of the show’s parody “Escandalo,” which is where we assume Jimmy has most of his fun with this given that the last one of these that was put out there was pretty brilliant.
If you are ABC, then it is basically a no-brainer why you want to put something like this on the air. “Scandal” is one of your most-successful series by a wide margin, and the ratings for “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” are high when they do these sort of aftershow-like programs.
Don’t expect this to be a trend that goes anywhere in the near future. We wouldn’t be shocked if networks adapt further to ensure that big serialized shows like a “Once Upon a Time” or even something that is a hybrid like “The Blacklist” ends up getting a similar treatment in the future. Anything to earn the networks a couple of extra dollars, right?
All the cynicism aside, you’re going to love this if you are a “Scandal” fan. As for everyone else, there will be plenty of other programming on after your local news.
