‘Veep’ season 3 premiere preview: Selina Meyer’s book signing

Veep -Now is a time when we are in desperate need for great comedy on TV. “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” has ended its run on Fox, “Community” will be over soon, and “How I Met Your Mother” resolved its run with a thud. Therefore, “Veep” may be our only hope for an established comedy to bring us to the promised land.

It’s only appropriate that we use a pseudo-reference to “Star Wars” in the last paragraph, given that Selina Meyer in this story is going to be facing off against some of the same things courtesy of some anxious people are her new book signing. This sneak peek is probably both depressing and realistic at the same time.

1. In one way, we sympathize for Selina. Everyone buys a book with their own interpretation in mind, and she does a good job playing to all of their interests. Also, it has to be awkward speaking with hundreds of fans / strangers within the span of an hour or two.

2. However, the way that Selina behaves is so transparent, and the fact that the public doesn’t see it makes this show just as much a satire on the American people’s own inability to see the forest through the tries as it is Washington corruption. We’re the people who continue to support this sort of bad behavior by not paying attention, and then voting from the town council level up … or at least that’s what “Veep” seems to be trying to say.

In the end, though, you don’t really watch this for social commentary as much as you do the laughs, and there are going to be plenty of those that unfold this season as Selina tries to run for President. So just buckle in, watch this trailer to get more of an idea of what lies ahead, and enjoy the ride.
