‘The Originals’: Another look at life without Claire Holt’s Rebekah
For any fan of “The Originals,” the past few days have to feel a combination of strange and confusing. It was only a little while ago that we had no clue or indication whatsoever that Claire Holt’s time on the show could be limited; however, she then drove away from New Orleans once and for all in “Welcome to Storyville,” and indications are that she is no longer a series regular.
So why the radio silence no? One interesting part of this story for the time being is that since her departure from the show, neither executive producer Julie Plec nor Holt herself has addressed what happened here. If we were to read heavily into this, then we would say that the biggest reason for the sense of mystery is merely that there is much more to come with this story, and we are hardly at the end of it now. There is also “The Vampire Diaries,” and it makes a little bit more sense for her to be there for a number of reasons.
1. Why would Rebekah want to stay around Klaus, given the history that they have?
2. Both Matt and Stefan are in “The Vampire Diaries,” and she has a history with both of them.
3. All this character really has ever wanted was a sense of love and understanding, and she could find it far better there.
What is even more ironic about the timing here is that Holt recently did a sit-down interview with Glamaholic, and while she didn’t reference leaving “The Originals” in it, she did reference what she would like to do with her career moving forward:
“I would love to continue to challenge myself by trying different things. Action, Drama, Comedy…I would be grateful to do any and all of it if someone is kind enough to hire me! I have such a wonderful time on The Originals though, because I get to play Rebekah in so many different periods. I’m a little spoiled.”
