‘Beauty and the Beast’ season 2, episode 16 review: Vincent, Cat, Gabe, and resolution

Is the “Beauty and the Beast” love triangle finally over? The show has made so much mileage out of the relationship between Vincent, Cat, and Gabe, and the longer that you played the story out, the more you run the risk of making this into a cliche.

In the end, “About Last Night” brought us exactly what you saw coming a mile away: Cat choosing to be with Vincent, and consequently the end of her relationship with Gabe. There wasn’t really anything that shocking about it, but it did cause us to wonder more than ever why Cat needed to go from one relationship to the other so quickly. You have to have that time to find herself, and the show does continually make her rely a little too much on having someone else in her life.

The one thing that you can give her credit for? Making her own decision. While Vincent definitely pressured her, she did not have to go back to him. What she does have to do is live with the consequences of her choices … which may include an arrest. Did Gabe do something to get him behind bars? That is the easy theory, since he has a reason to be bitter and upset, given that she never put what he did into the relationship.

The other major storyline this week marked the end of the Sam storyline presumably, given that he was arrested in his own right. That’s a victory, right? We’ll see if there is a different villain in the latter part of this season … whenever it airs. We just hope that now that the relationship part of this is over, we’ll be able to move forward. Grade: B.
