‘Downton Abbey’ season 5: Laura Carmichael, Hugh Bonneville on a four-legged friend
There are many stars of “Downton Abbey,” but who knew that a beloved pooch would be one of them? It is the rear end of a dog that you first see when the show picks up, and over the course of the ITV / PBS series, two animals have played the part of companion to the Crawley family: Pharaoh and Isis. (In reality, more dogs have actually played these two characters.)
The video below really gives Isis a chance to shine, as you can hear the likes of Hugh Bonneville (Robert), Laura Carmichael (Edith), Allen Leech (Tom), and more talk about working with Abbey, the latest dog to play the part. Abbey signed on for Isis during season 3, and has stuck with it ever sense. There’s some great little one-liners in here, especially for all of you pet owners out there who can relate to a dog and some of their crazy antics.
As for whether or not Isis is going to have a presence in season 5, you have to believe so at the moment, given that there has been no word otherwise, and the show is not too far ahead in the timeline for Isis to have passed. However, you have to remember here that it was season 2 when we first saw Isis, and that was 1916. Season 5 is going to be set in at the earliest 1923, so the dog will be up there in age. We don’t want to be a total downer when it comes to the dog’s future here, but that is something to remember. We hope that no matter what there is always a dog as a part of the show, since they add that little extra dose of fun and character to the mix.
