‘American Idol XIII’ preview: Munfarid Zaidi returns following Harry Connick Jr. ‘cradle’
Did you love one of the sillier auditions of “American Idol” so far this season? Well, the good news is that you may not have seen the last of Munfarid Zaidi just yet.
In a way, we feel bad for Munfarid in that while he was absolutely hilarious in giving Harry a sweet serenade, at the same time he also runs the risk the rest of the way of being identified thanks solely to a single audition. From the standpoint of pure hilarity, we don’t know how in the world he is really going to be able to ever replicate this. His new performance is at least nice to listen to; while he may not be the greatest singer to ever walk the face of the earth, he’s an entertainer with a personality! We do hope to see him make it further in the competition, mostly because we want to see just what else he is capable of doing. If he entertains us here, who knows what else he is capable of if given the full slate of resources the show can offer him.
The Hollywood Week process this time around is also going to feature a new segment called “Hollywood or Home,” where the major twist is that some contestants are going to have to sing for their life. Based on the way in which this twist has been explained, it’s basically like being sent to choreography on the “So You Think You Can Dance” auditions: You have to do something else to prove yourself, and if you do, you move forward to the next round.
What do you think about this new performance from Munfarid, and do you think it alone is going to help him move forward to the next round of the competition? I thought his performance was amazing for two reasons. First – it just plain surprised me in how unique it was. Second, he captured the moment. It was like he was having a ball and we were all invited to enjoy the moment with him. Completely forgot that this was a serious competition while he was just doing his thing…
