‘Pretty Little Liars’ season 4, episode 17 review: What did Spencer learn about Ezra, Ali?

“Pretty Little Liars” is often a show that highlights revelations, but some of the biggest ones in particular over the course of the show’s run took place on the new episode Tuesday night. That is where we started to see the wheels come to a halt for Ezra, and for some of the Liars started to realize just what sort of guy the English teacher really was.

Let’s just start things off here by giving Ezra a little bit of a finger wag here if his whole job was to try to be inconspicuous at the whole “being evil” thing. Why would you try to make a move on Emily when it was well-known that she was staying at the school late with you? Obviously, “A” (if it was Ezra) thought that he was going to be able to capture her and get away with it.

Speaking of “A” capturing people, something pretty messed-up happened to Hanna while she was at the dentist’s office in order to get some more information on who could have possibly been buried in Ali’s grave. Then, we have the big Ezra-related shocker: Spencer figuring out that Ezra most likely met with Ali based on a random order at a pub.

All of the trauma of this episode, which culminated in Emily being rescued from her father from school (which led to his heart problem being revealed), all of the Liars coming together for the first time all episode, and learning that while at the dentist, yet another warning came down from “A” to stay away. He just got creative about it and put it in her mouth. (We’re assuming that it was Ezra, since he was missing most of the day.)

While Spencer has yet to share her revelations with anyone, this at least was overall the strongest episode of “Pretty Little Liars” in 2014. Everything made sense, and while there were some moments of predictable writing near the end, at least the story moved forward in a pretty significant way. Grade: B+.
