NBC’s ‘The Voice’ season 6 promo: Christina Grimmie auditions for Shakira, coaches
Is Christina Grimmie the most-famous person who has auditioned for “The Voice” since the beginning of its run? We imagine that in the end, so much of that is subjective. The show has welcomed on it before the voice of Tommy Pickles in E.G. Daily, and Kaley Cuoco’s younger sister Briana.
The only big difference between Grimmie and these two is that she is a name who has actually been around the singing-show circuit for a little while, in addition to some of the young stars that are currently hot in the industry. She has toured with Selena Gomez, and back during “American Idol” season 11, she made a series of YouTube videos helping to chronicle their journey touring across the country.
Does all of this really matter when it comes to Christina going far on the show? Maybe. It will at lest get her some screen time during the early rounds, but you also cannot discount the fact that she is talented.
If this was one of the other talent shows that is out there, of course we would be in some sort of uprising about contestants who we have already heard of. But, we like to think of “The Voice” more as entertainment, and a competition between singers who are looking for that little bump to get over the top. Cassadee Pope is one great example of that, as is Judith Hill. It gives them a shot to stretch your musical influences, and really figure out what works best for them in the future. Sometimes, you really need that guidance in what is a fiercely-competitive music industry these days.
Are you cool with more and more previously-known artists auditioning for “The Voice,” and who would you want to see on the show if you had a choice? Share your thoughts below, and also be sure to click here if you want to get some updates worth singing about sent straight to your email.

That’s exciting! Christina Grimmie is definitely talented! I remember watching a bunch of her youtube videos years ago. I remember discovering her through Alex Goot when they did a duet of DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love.
Also, is that Jessica Childress from Team Usher at the end of the promo? Or someone that looks like her?

I’ve never heard of her but of course I’m okay with having “known about” artists on The Voice. That’s almost the point of the show, to provide artists their “big break” in music. There’s the people you mentioned in this article, plus Donna Allen who has been singing/releasing albums for yearsssss. And then there’s Tessanne Chin who had a less significant “career” in Jamaica, and Will Champlin who has an album out, has credits on a Michael Jackson album, and has won a grammy for his songwriting. There’s a whole list of contestants who have history. But that’s a good thing. That’s why the talent tends to be so much better, thus making the show more entertaining.

I didn’t know who she was and I’m sure most of the people watching won’t either.

Well, she’s not exactly a household name. (I had to Google her.) Maybe a turn on The Voice will give her much greater recognition.

Yeah I definitely haven’t heard of her before but it’s not like it’s against The Voice’s mission, which is to take working artists and put them on a big stage to get them exposure for them to finally have their big break. This, in my opinion, is a much better strategy than the other competitions which just take random amateurs.
