NBC’s ‘Community’ season 5 spoilers: First look at Donald Glover’s last episode
Thursday night is a day that all fans of “Community” should circle on their calendars. After all, it marks the last time that you will see Donald Glover as a series regular on the show. May we see Troy Barnes again at some point in the future? It is certainly possible, but it would probably be more of a random cameo similar to what Chevy Chase did in the premiere.
We just found out the reason why Troy is leaving Greendale, and it is an interesting one: Embarking on a boat trip around the world in an effort to prove something to himself, and then to also own a piece of the Hawthorne Wipes empire. It’s somewhat silly, and the irony is that this sounds like a pretty entertaining show in its own right. (Who wouldn’t want to see Troy on an international journey finding himself?) We anticipate it being emotional, primarily for Abed.
The irony to this episode (which is titled “Geothermal Escapism”) is mostly that Troy’s exit is going to be avoided by and large for as long as humanly possible. In an effort to desperately ignore it, we are going to see the likes of Abed, Annie, and others focus their minds elsewhere. It may only be near the end where they start to actually address that giant pit in their stomach. This interaction between Troy and Jeff Winger shows more that there is at least one person who has a nice moment with him. (Strangely, Jeff has been a role model for Troy at times … at least when he is not being particularly horrible.)
In case you missed seeing Jonathan Banks or John Oliver in this past episode, they’re going to be back with much more to do the rest of the season. But it was appropriate at least for this past episode, the attention was given to the characters who actually knew Pierce.
