NBC’s ‘Rosemary’s Baby’ miniseries casts Zoe Saldana

In case you hadn’t heard yet, NBC is really starting to embrace miniseries more than any other network out there. They have already started to put the wheels in motion on a follow-up on “The Bible” entitled “A.D.,” and there are a number of other limited series prospects that they have stored away in their arsenal.

What is one of the latest ones? A remake of “Rosemary’s Baby” that is going to be coming up over the next couple of years. The adaptation of the Roman Polanski movie also now has a major star attached to the title role: Zoe Saldana. Sources confirm that the “Avatar” star is on board, and she is just the latest of many big stars who are starting to flock more to TV. (It shouldn’t be too hard to figure out why; the quality of programming is going up dramatically, while it is becoming harder and harder for original properties to succeed in the cinema.)

We are still slightly concerned about the fact that this is a remake, mostly because there is not really anything new out there that we can see on the show that wasn’t in the film. At least the setting is being changed to Paris, so there is at least something a little different here compared to the original. Also, it is a property that is more than 40 years old, so it is at least a little different than Sony deciding to retell the entire “Spider-Man” origin story mere years after the last edition in the franchise came out.

The only concern we would have is that while Saldana is becoming a bigger star in the movie world, it hasn’t been proven fully yet that she can anchor a film on its way to becoming a hit. Can she do that with TV?
