NBC’s ‘The Voice’: Cole Vosbury suggests Blake Shelton losing may be good for the show
We liked Cole Vosubry quite a bit on “The Voice” this year, but we almost like him even more now after reading some of the bearded phenomenon’s new comments all about his time on the show. He has a nice perspective on everything, including some of the behind-the-scenes machinations and the perception that some people have in the public about his mentor Blake Shelton.
For example, Cole (who actually looked like the likely winner for this season for a while) told Parade Magazine that he is well aware that there are a contingent of people out there who would not have been particularly thrilled if Shelton were to actually win another season of the show:
“We both talked about the fact that if he won again, it would have been a little too much anyway. And I knew that going in, so I thought ‘if he wins again, people are probably going to stop watching the show. If we know he’s going to win every year, what’s the point?’ So we talked about it, and he was making calls getting me in touch with booking agents and managers. I’ve heard how supportive he is of his artists, and he really gets behind us. I’m seeing that’s really true—even though I didn’t win, he’s still helping me out and he’s still in my corner behind me and supporting me.”
Do we feel that Cole is really right here, and people would stop watching the show if he won? Maybe a few would, but it probably wouldn’t be that much different than “American Idol” and what they went through with a guy winning every year. Plus, the only Team Blake win that we’d really protest is the one back in season 2. (We preferred Michelle Chamuel to Danielle Bradbery, but we feel like Michelle is really better off with an indie career.)
The great thing ultimately about the top five is that even though we’re bummed that Cole and his magical beard are gone from the show, there are still three awesome people left in the competition … who we’re going to have full contestant rankings for tomorrow.
