‘The Americans’ season 2 teaser: All about hiding (video)
For the time being, FX is keeping pretty quiet when it comes to the new season of “The Americans.” What we can say (at least for now) is that the show will be back in February after the end of “American Horror Story: Coven,” and will continue the same sort of always-present conflict that is here between doing the right thing for your “country,” and then doing the right thing for yourself.
By and large, these are characters who are spies and attempting to bring back information for the Soviet Union during what is one of the most volatile times in the history of this country. But, at the same time, there are some other complications here at play such as human emotion, and the connections that you build when infiltrating a world. It’s almost like Stockholm Syndrome, with the exception being that you’re not starting to sympathize with your captor; instead, you start to sympathize with those whom you are exploiting.
“The Americans” season 1 was one of those shows that had a number of really incredible things going for it. As a matter of fact, one of the only aspects of it that really held it back was just that it started off shaky, and there weren’t many people who actually tuned in live on a weekly basis. It’s still going to have a hard time drawing numbers just based on the time in which it airs, and against some of that big competition in the February sweeps. But if you are into espionage thrillers or also life during the 1980s, it has to be reasonably high on the list of shows that you should be interested in checking out.
