‘The X Factor’ UK finale spoilers: What Sam Bailey, Luke Friend, and Nicholas McDonald will sing
There are three parts to “The X Factor” UK finale, at least in terms of what the contestants are going to be performing on the show. Sam Bailey, Luke Friend, and Nicholas McDonald will perform a reprise of one of their favorite performances from the show this season, along with a new performance and also a duet.
If you head over to the link here, you can see just who the remaining finalists are going to be performing with. The focus of this article in particular are the other two songs that the finalists will be doing on the show.
Round One – Reprises
Sam Bailey, “The Power of Love” – This is a powerful song, but it’s also a little dated. Out of the great performances that Sam has had over the season, this is probably not the one that we would have chosen.
Nicholas McDonald, “Angel” – Seriously? We need the sad puppy song again? (For those readers in Britain, there is an infomercial that plays in America where Sarah McLachlan talks about saving animals from abuse set to this song. It’s incredibly depressing.)
Luke Friend, “What Makes You Beautiful” – This is the smartest reprise of the three just in that it’s going to appeal more to the young people out there who are voting. The other two artists are appealing a little more to an older demographic, and he is going for something a little more fun and upbeat.
Round Two – New performances
Sam Bailey, “The Edge of Glory” – It’s definitely a more modern song, and while you wouldn’t necessarily think that Lady Gaga and Sam would have much in common, she should do a really great job with this.
Nicholas McDonald, “Candy” – This could either be really great, or pretty meh depending on Nicholas’ energy level. We like that he and Louis Walsh at least chose something that was an uptempo Robbie Williams number rather than another drippy ballad.
Luke Friend, “We Are Young” – This may be the best three songs chosen for a single round all season. While we wonder if Luke will get the syncopation right here (this is a hard song), it’s another one that is very current and he can do some fun things with.
We’ll be back late tonight (or early tomorrow morning if you’re reading from Britain) with the contestant rankings for this final stage. So be sure to check back soon!
