NBC’s ‘The Voice’ winner Danielle Bradbery’s ‘My Day’ getting mass Winter Olympics promo
Remember what happened to “Home” by Phillip Phillips? Prior to the Summer Olympics in London, the song was thought of as a strong success by an “American Idol” winner; but, at the same time, it was not the sort of song that was on the road to becoming a smash hit. Seeing the song featured during the show, especially alongside the gymnastics team getting their gold medal, ended up making this into a quadruple-platinum single, and one of the most successful songs of 2012.
So can Danielle Bradbery really have the same sort of success this year? The first thing that we have to say is that NBC is clearly being smart and strategic in announcing that this song is going to be featured front and center for a campaign all around the Sochi games. While it is going to be hard to top the enormous success of “Home,” this is still one of the best opportunities that any winner of “The Voice” has ever received to have a hit single after the show has ended. It also represents a pretty firm commitment on NBC’s part to ensure that the winners of their singing show are supported in some way after the show comes to a close.
While some of the promotional campaign for her debut album started a little slow earlier this year, Danielle has been much more all over the place the past several weeks. Not only did she score a performance on “Hart of Dixie,” but she’s also been on “The Voice” already this season and will return tonight with another performance. Her debut single “The Heart of Dixie” has already become a decent-sized hit on the country airplay charts, and any time a woman does that in a male-dominated genre, it is impressive.

When I saw it I felt it was an absolutely perfect idea and promotion. The song is fitting for the games and the athlete. Danielle is such a talented singer and will be a great role model for young fans. Plus, utilizing this will help retain young viewers for the Olympics. I look forward to hearing it many nights for two weeks in February. A great break for a talented performer and well deserving young woman.
