‘Sherlock’ season 3 spoilers: New trailer teases Watson developments and more

Sherlock season 2Now that we know for sure that “Sherlock” season 3 is returning on New Year’s Day, the executives at the BBC are doing almost everything that they can to shell out new promotional footage.

It wasn’t that long ago, for example, that we had an opportunity to see the first trailer to go along with “The Day of the Doctor,” the 50th Anniversary Special of “Doctor Who.” This time around, we have a trailer that was released without that same sort of gusto … but one that may contain more actual content pertaining to the plot. We have a sight of Sherlock Holmes’ “grave,” a voiceover detailing some of the conflict that Holmes and his former partner Watson will have after the news of him being alive is revealed, and also the beginnings of a new mystery. There are three separate 90-minutes episodes that comprise this season, much in the way that we have seen in the past. Each one will explain more and more of the story, and lead us hopefully to the time in which Holmes and Watson are actually working together again.

If there is one element from this new trailer that is perhaps the biggest “stunner,” it is the reveal on Holmes’ part that rather than sitting around and waiting for him to suddenly spring out of the earth, Watson has actually moved on with his life. This is more proof of what is Sherlock’s greatest deficiency: Despite being a master sleuth and a genius in so many ways, he is still sorely lacking when it comes to understanding how people work much of the time.

We’re going to have more clips of the new “Sherlock” season throughout the week, especially as the BBC looks to get much of its promotional material out the door prior to the start of the holidays. They will have another great platform for a trailer alongside “The Time of the Doctor” airing on Christmas Day, but it is still be seen if they will utilize that opportunity.

As for new scoop, what we can give you is the story here, where Martin Freeman discusses some of the latest developments in the series since we saw Holmes and Watson last.
