‘Arrow’ season 2 spoilers: Stephen Amell teases ‘new direction’ for Oliver and Felicity
Were you feeling somewhat down about Oliver and Felicity after Wednesday’s “Arrow” debut for Barry Allen? We understand given that the chemistry between Emily Bett Rickards and Grant Gustin’s characters was there. They share a common bond, and after the man behind the Hood told her that he didn’t want to risk being with anyone he genuinely cared about, she may be inclined now to finally look elsewhere.
But here’s the funny thing about relationships sometimes: You really don’t know what you got until it’s taken from you. Speaking to E! News in a new chat, Stephen Amell suggests that Barry’s presence really could be the linchpin to draw the relationship between his character and Felicity into a new place, one where they are at least able to figure out how they really want to care for each other:
“That relationship is really moving in a new direction. It’s one of those things where, guys do this all the time, you don’t realize the depths and levels of your feelings for someone until someone else likes them.”
Personally, what we really like about this story for Oliver and Felicity is that it raises an interesting question from a showrunners point of view. While we weren’t there when the script was written, the easy assumption to make was that the original endgame plan for the show romantically was Oliver and Laurel. It may still be, since no one envisioned Felicity having such a large role, but isn’t it smart for the writers to respond to what is the most-popular couple on the show? While Oliver and Laurel are drifting apart and the chemistry has always felt more forced, it never seemed that way with Oliver and his tech specialist / assistant.
We’re going to be fascinated to see where this relationship goes in the new year, and whether or not the responses of the fans to a couple could influence the path of the storyteller here, at least to a certain extent.
While you’re not going to get any romance scoop from it, you can at least sneak a peek at the fall finale airing on Wednesday just by visiting the link here. We’ll have even more “Arrow” season 2 scoop soon!

I don’t really care.. I just watch the show and see how things unfold.. as far as I’m concerned, they should just write it in a way that the story lines feel most organic and flows with a consistency and common sense.

I agree, and so far it what makes the most sense (at least to me) is Oliver and Felicity.
