2013 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade: Fifth Harmony, Cher Lloyd give ‘X Factor’ their moment

What is it about the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade that gets all of the former singing-show stars out? Personally, we relate it to the fact that these are people who already have their careers associated with TV already, and the networks trust them that they are going to go out in front of children and will not do or say anything offensive.

What we personally found interesting about this edition of the parade in particular was that there were two former “X Factor” contestants in Fifth Harmony and Cher Lloyd, and also a number of former “American Idol” stars in Carrie Underwood and Kellie Pickler. However, there were no contestants present from NBC’s own singing competition “The Voice,” which has had the highest ratings of them all as of late.

When it comes to Fifth Harmony, the girl group took advantage of the opportunity to perform their new single “Better Together” … at least sort of. It’s hard to really call what most singers during the parade do performing, and it’s mostly not their fault. This is just a long-lasting parade tradition to just go out and make your best effort to “perform” given that you’re freezing and your microphone may or may not be actually hooked up anything.

Meanwhile, Cher performed her new single “I Wish,” which was interesting thanks to the fact that the line about “a butt and a rack” was not featured in the chorus; instead, the track just played an earlier part of the song again. Remember, this is a parade for children! There is nothing more carefully-censored out there so that people of all ages can actually tune in without having their parents freak out about something and start contacting the FCC.
