‘Sherlock’ season 3 spoilers: First details on ‘The Empty Hearse’

Sherlock season 2Here is how desperate the situation is right now when it comes to “Sherlock” season 3 getting a premiere date: For whatever reason, we’re getting an opportunity to read a full synopsis for the first episode before finding out when it is going to actually air. Why in the world is there still a delay going on when it comes to this? That is one of the things that makes no sense at all about the way in which British networks do business.

At least today, we are coming here with some new details about the first 90-minute episode that will be presented during the third season: “The Empty Hearse.” Benedict Cumberbatch will be back as the title hero, and some of the other characters are going to be in for quite a shock when they realize that the hero is in fact, very much alive despite everything that they have believed to this point.

Now, let’s get to sharing that full synopsis:

“In episode one of this new series, two years after the devastating effects of The Reichenbach Fall, Dr John Watson has got on with his life. New horizons, romance and a comforting domestic future beckon. But, with London under threat of a huge terrorist attack, Sherlock Holmes is about to rise from the grave with all the theatricality that comes so naturally to him. It’s what his best friend wanted more than anything, but for John Watson it might well be a case of ‘be careful what you wish for’! If Sherlock thinks everything will be just as he left it though, he’s in for a very big surprise…”

Sounds cryptic enough, no? Anything that manages to surprise Sherlock, who continually likes to pride himself on never missing a step, is something that will very much excite us.

Of course, we would be even more excited if we actually knew a premiere date. We can at least say that it will be back on PBS in mid-January in America, and the British premiere will be before then.
