‘Masters of Sex’ episode 9 preview: Masters and Johnson’s problem with Jane
On Sunday night’s “Masters of Sex” episode, Masters and Johnson are going to prepare for what is one of the most important presentations of their entire lives so far. Unfortunately, there is also going to be another problem that comes with it: Their original test subject has decided that what she was being asked to do was a bridge too far.
To put the mission of this presentation in basic terms, these two are hoping to present a visual aid of sorts to help to make some of the details that are being presented in front of the science community a little easier to comprehend. Unfortunately, the woman who was originally going to be supplying this aid in Jane has opted instead to give back the money and not take part in it. This puts Lizzy Caplan and Michael Sheen’s characters in quite the pickle: Either they have to find someone else to take part in the study, or figure out a way to do it on their own.
This is what Virginia promises in the video alone: She will be the person in charge of showcasing herself, but her one request is that she wants Masters to operate the camera, that way there is at least someone that she trusts on a certain level involved. On the surface, this seems like the best idea for the presentation to move forward. But let’s dissect this for just a minute: It may not be that hard to figure out among those who know Bill at the school that Virginia may be literally behind the curtain, and how would Libby feel if she found out about this? It’s a little bit different than the secret of the two taking part in the study themselves, and it’s risky from the standpoint of Masters’ marriage … though there are times when, to be honest, he really does not seem that invested in it to begin with.
