Ratings: ‘Bones’ season 9 looks much better; ‘Nikita,’ ‘The Carrie Diaries’ still look bad
When you are on Friday night, there has to be a certain adjustment of expectations that comes with it. Therefore, you cannot really expect that a show like “Bones” is going to draw a 3.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic and be a massive hit. However, we don’t necessarily think that it is that far out of the ordinary to expect the show to draw some decent figures when you consider a few things. There’s much less competition on Fridays, it’s not a show that you have to watch every week, and it also has a devoted following.
So with all of this in mind, it really feels about right to see the show drawing a 1.5 rating for its newest episode. This is what Fox was probably looking for more than a 1.2 the week before, and it will probably be renewed if it continues to have numbers like this the rest of the season. While we don’t quite imagine that Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz come cheap at this point, the network needs something that it can use on Friday nights not named Chef Gordon Ramsay.
Now that we’ve said that, we expect either “Kitchen Nightmares” or “Hotel Hell” to be airing after this show by the end of this season, especially with the terrible numbers “Raising Hope” is getting. In case you are wondering why this show was picked up in the first place, we see it more as something being burned off just so that it makes it to syndication … though we don’t know who will syndicate a show that is drawing 0.7 ratings for its new episodes.
While “Shark Tank” won the night again with a 1.8 rating, the news for The CW was not great. After looking like it had room for improvement, “The Carrie Diaries” increased its cancellation odds considerably by again slipping to a 0.3 rating. We still think that it has a shot of being renewed, but with “Nikita,” it’s clear that they are just trying to offer up fan service at this point. That 0.2 rating it’s getting is pretty terrible, especially when you think about it skewing older than “The Carrie Diaries.”
