‘The Amazing Race 23’ preview: Dune buggy disasters; plus, a surprising romance!
There are a couple of interesting things to discuss before we get to the next episode of “The Amazing Race 23” airing on CBS Sunday night, but we have to start off with what is to us the most interesting surprise: Could there actually be a romance coming up that nobody among the contestants sees coming?
In some bonus interviews from last week’s episode, what is interesting is that you find out that there is some chemistry between Ally (of team “Ice Queens” Ally & Ashley) and also Tim of Tim & Marie. Before you start to think that Marie is going to rip Ally’s head off for this, she apparently seems to be rather fine with the fact that they are exes, and shockingly, he even refers to her using the “friend” label in the video. (We guess that there is probably an equal surprise here in that Tim is allowed to speak at all. This is something that is new to him for this season.)
But aren’t the Afghanimals going to cry themselves to sleep over this? We doubt it, since they are coming off their first-ever 1st-place finish on the season. On a different note, we don’t really get the sense that anyone else on this season really likes Leo & Jamal, and while we know that there are some old-school fans comparing them to BJ & Tyler, but we don’t really think that is fair. Those two guys played things up for the cameras, but they also were a little more interesting strategically.
As for another preview for this episode, there will be a challenge involving dune buggies that feels almost identical to one that took place on the Australian version of the show, and it looks to be just as frustrating for some of the teams in that we’re going to be seeing them struggle to keep the buggies from being stuck in the sand. Specifically, “baseball bunnies” Nicky & Kim are victims of this … but don’t assume that they are going home. With the Double U-Turn in play, you better expect to see either Tim & Marie or the Afghanimals gone, since they are both at times threats. We don’t see Travis & Nicole or Jason & Amy in trouble, mostly because they are consistently at the front of the pack.
