‘Doctor Who’ 50th anniversary special video: When Matt Smith met David Tennant
Let’s start this “Doctor Who” article off with a bit of a warning: The potential of you squealing after watching the video is pretty darn high. Why is that? Let’s just say that it brings two of your obsessions together in the very end, and probably will either make you utter all sorts of strange moments of joy.
It’s hardly a spoiler that David Tennant and Matt Smith are going to meet in this episode a week from Saturday; if you’ve followed the internet, you knew months ago. But what the preview explains is how they meet, and let’s just say that it involves a museum and some paintings that have seemingly shattered from the inside. Clara seems particular distressed (unsurprisingly) by the way in which Smith’s 11th Doctor portals himself from one world to the next, but this is just the way that he has been doing it for many years.
We do at least want to take a moment and mention that this promo is brought to you by the BBC Children in Need promotion, which you can find out more about by visiting the link here. It’s a nice move for the network to give us something this substantial before the 75-minute special airs, and they are now asking us to do something nice in return for children who probably don’t get to experience a warm meal, let alone the incredible story that Steven Moffat and the writers put on screen.
This is not the only bit of awesomeness out there when it comes to the “Doctor Who” 50th anniversary. There is another video out there at this link that helps to show a little more of the origins of John Hurt’s mystery Doctor, and where he fits in the timeline. Since we are just a week away now until the special finally airs, you can expect there to be a trove of more assorted scoop coming out. So stay tuned, as we’re going to have all sorts of good stuff moving forward!
