‘Bones’ season 9, episode 9 review: Brennan’s jury duty, and a fun case for Friday

What's ahead -Was “Bones” a good fit for Friday night? Based on the show’s first episode to air on the night, we’re pretty thrilled with the transition.

While we may be a little in the minority here, we actually prefer having the show on this night rather than in the typical Monday timeslot. There’s less competition from “The Voice,” “How I Met Your Mother,” or “Dancing with the Stars,” and this may let some of those typical DVR viewers actually check it out and watch live. Also, it is the sort of show that is going to make you miserable, and you can catch it, and then still hang out with your friends without feeling completely depressed.

This episode was a completely standalone one, but it was pretty entertaining nonetheless as we saw Brennan in an environment that she is really not that familiar with: Being a juror, and having to actually allow someone else to have power over her. She didn’t handle that very well, and it was made all the more frustrating by the fact that she was basically unable to convict a man that she knew was guilty, a pro soccer player. That’s where things started to get a little bit interesting, as we learned that Booth was investigating a case at the same time that had some implications that would arrest the man a little later down the road.

In the end … of course the bad guy was caught! What was especially enjoyable about this was the first half of the episode more so than the second, where we saw some of the members of the Jeffersonian actually spending some time with one another trying to run the lab without Emily Deschanel’s character around. It gave us some more insight into how everyone operates, and we do always appreciate that. This wasn’t an iconic episode by any means, but it is one that we’ll say got Friday nights off to the right foot. Grade: B.
