‘Downton Abbey’ season 4, episode 8 preview: One last look at finale, Joanne Froggatt’s pain

Take a look -The end is just about here for “Downton Abbey’s” regular season, and on Sunday night’s new episode, you are likely going to have an opportunity to see a pin put in something that has been an enormous story ever since it (spoiler alert!) first started to become an issue earlier this season: Joanne Froggatt’s Anna being raped by Mr. Green.

Is it possible in theory that the plot could continue moving into the Christmas special? Sure, but we doubt it. You have to remember that this is Christmas, after all, and the last time that we had a story on the holiday, it involved Matthew dying and Dan Stevens being written out of the show. We have a very difficult time imagining that Julian Fellowes would follow that up this holiday season with watching Mr. Bates try to kill Green after he finds out the truth about who he is.

But Anna still does not seem to be altogether pleased in the photo above from the finale, and we have to equate this to her struggling to adapt to seeing Green back on the premises. This marks an opportunity for Bates to figure out more information, and also an opportunity for some more terrible things to potentially happy to her. At least this time around Mrs. Hughes could try to protect her in some way, at least if it is at all possible for her to do so. Anna is just ultimately a little more guarded in general now thanks to what happened, even if many do not know the guilty party.

On a slightly different note, we also hope that over the course of this episode, we do hear a little more about the Ivy / Jimmy storyline that has taken too much time to really go anywhere, what Thomas is really up to these days, and also Alfred / Daisy. Some of these are stories that probably will carry over to Christmas, given that they are not so depressing and may take a little while longer to resolve.

Want to read more teaser’s for tonight’s finale? Then just take a look as we analyze a few other handfuls of characters below:

1. A look at Lady Mary, and how she may be moving forward.

2. A look at Edith, and what she may be trying to overcome.

3. A look at Tom Branson, and his own path to trying to be able to move forward with life.
