‘The X Factor’ USA: Josh Levi, Restless Road, top 13 will perform again after voting error

Restless Road -This is why “The X Factor” can’t have nice things.

One day after we are kind to the singing competition, and said that it had the best live show ever thanks mostly to the presentation and the judges at least looking somewhat interested in the proceedings (a step up from Simon Cowell not even knowing the names to his own group members), something like this happens. Fox announced that there was a voting issue on the show last night, which we like to think is what happens when you assign people numbers for a season for some silly reason rather than just changing it week to week based on the order. With assigned numbers there is no real need for some people to watch; they’ll just power-vote and tell their friends while maybe getting the clip off of YouTube.

But thanks to this glitch, the entire top 13 is going to perform again tonight in what is a show where they will all do their save-me-songs. These votes will go over to Wednesday, and there will be an elimination of at least one or two people before the next performances begin. This is probably the best way to do it given that the mistake has already happened, but still: Tonight’s show is going to be awful, since save-me songs are always some sort of drippy ballad that are fueled by adrenaline and overpraised in the moment to not make people feel terrible as they are being sent out the door.

With all of this in mind, tonight’s show is going to be potentially disastrous for the acts that are simply not as good of a singers, since it will really be all about the voice, and where you are placed in the show. There’s not a lot of time to be memorable in an hour with thirteen people all singing for their lives.

Oh, and we should add one other thing: Just how many people are actually voting right now? This show brought in only a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which really just furthers along the perception that there is little chance it has of being around for another year.
