‘Supernatural’ season 9, episode 5 video: Jensen Ackles and a vegan bakery

Is the following “Supernatural” sneak peek our favorite of the season? It may not contain much in the way of surprises or special effects, but we are starting to feel like it’s the best one for one reason in particular: The comedy of it all. Jensen Ackles has great comic timing, and any episode that allows him an opportunity to really show that off is one that we can be thoroughly excited to see.

In this particular video below, Dean and Sam are on the hunt when they are taken to a place that Dean comments on being the root of almost all evil: A vegan bakery. There’s then a funny line from Jared Padalecki about the smell, and then Dean lets us know just how he feels on the concept of people who wear sunglasses inside. All in all, that’s three belly laughs in just about 30 seconds; if “Supernatural” packed that in across the entire episode, we’d be passed out by the end of it.

The premise for this episode Tuesday (entitled “Dog Dean Afternoon”) is brilliant in that Dean has to take on some dog-like characteristics in order to succeed at his latest mission. This feels like yet another standalone mission in addition to “Slumber Party,” but when they provide you with this sort of entertainment, we really don’t mind.

The only thing that we understand some people being bummed about is the lack of Castiel. Misha Collins wasn’t on the show last week, and it does look like this is going to be a Cass-less one this time also. The one thing to be hopeful about is that later this month, the one-time angel (and now most-of-the-time homeless guy) is going to be back … and he will have an interesting new job to go along with it. Let’s just hope that at some point over the past several weeks, he has learned to not be so trusting of women who quickly want to get into bed with him.
