‘Arrow’ season 2 spoilers: Stephen Amell talks bond between Felicity Smoak, Barry Allen

“Arrow” season 2 has introduced some great characters already in the Canary (which is really a re-introduction) and also Brother Blood, but one of the most ambitious ones is still very much to come in Barry Allen / The Flash. This will introduce an element of superpowers to this world, which is still something that we are admittedly a little bit skeptical about. However, at the same time it will also introduce a new human character who creates a new dynamic when it comes to some personal relationships. Felicity Smoak may not only have a new friend, but a possibly love interest to boot.

Speaking on this subject to E! News, Stephen Amell does his part to explain one interesting parallel between Barry’s relationship with Emily Bett Rickards’ character on a non-romantic level, and one that Oliver Queen has with Diggle:

“Barry likes Felicity, and he should because the characters are incredibly similar, and they play off of one another. We see instances where Diggle will finish Oliver’s sentences, and we see the same type of dynamic because both Diggle and Oliver are soldiers, and Barry and Felicity are both kind of nerdy, and are interested in the same random things, so it’s interesting to see Barry and Felicity take a shine to one another.”

Through this relationship, we may also get an opportunity to see a different side of Felicity. In between all of the crazy “shipping” that has gone on with this character, we imagine that there probably has been a little bit of forgetting that this young woman has some sort of life of her own. We still know very little about her save for what her relationship is to the other members of Team Arrow, and this could open up the universe a little for us to see a new side. (We’d also be down for some Felicity flashbacks to see how she first ended up on the show to begin with.)
