Bob Barker returning to ‘The Price Is Right’ for 90th anniversary celebration
Is Bob Barker ready to “come on down” for more of “The Price Is Right”? It certainly appears to be so. The former hosting great, who spent a good 35 years telling people to spay and neuter their pets while kissing thousands of contestants who came across the stage, is going to be back aboard the classic series soon.
On the December 12 episode, Barker will reportedly be present in order to help show off one of the iconic showcases during the end of the show, and it will be a part of a massive celebration of his 90th birthday. The series is going to feature pieces on pet adoption all week in his honor, and there will be some other surprises to go along with it. Even though Barker left the show back in 2007, he has clearly not been forgotten in the process.
One thing we do have to give “The Price Is Right” and CBS a ton of credit for right now is managing to hold the fort with Drew Carey, and keeping him around for the hosting job as long as they have. This has made it feel like there is a sense of permanence to the gig, and like there is not going to be a revolving door of any sort to replace Bob … which is great because the intention was never to “replace” him to begin with. What has made Drew survive the past six or so years is that he does not bring the same sort of energy to the show, it’s something new and fresh.
Now, we turn to a bit more of a controversial subject, and that is that this celebration is happening a year after Barker did not appear for the show’s 40th anniversary special, which came amid rumors about whether or not he was pleased about some of the prizes given away during the Carey version of the show. Obviously, whatever problem that the two parties had is now water under the bridge, given that this celebration would probably not be happening otherwise
As a game show junkie and someone who has watched a ton of this show over the years, we’ll definitely be interested in checking this out.
