‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5 spoilers: Paul Wesley, Nina Dobrev, and even more work
The producers of “The Vampire Diaries” have certainly done something rather creative when it comes to their story this year. Even though there are fewer actors in the cast than there were at times during season 4, they still have just as many characters. This is mostly thanks in part to Paul Wesley taking on a pair of people in Silas and Stefan, and Nina Dobrev literally taking on three different characters at this point in Elena, Katherine, and Silas’ true love Amara. By the time this season is over, Nina is going to be able to do a “Nutty Professor’ style movie where she just sits around at a dinner table and chats with all of the various incarnations of herself.
What we have for you here are some of the first details from “Death and the Maiden,” which is the new episode of the show airing two weeks from Thursday on November 14. You will see Dobrev’s name so many times in the synopsis below that your head will start to spin:
“While Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) try to explain Amara’s (Nina Dobrev) situation to Stefan (Paul Wesley), Dr. Wes (guest star Rick Cosnett) gives Katherine (Nina Dobrev) some deeply disturbing news. Nadia (guest star Olga Fonda) shows up at Caroline’s (Candice Accola) dorm room, searching for Katherine. After a surprising conversation with Amara, Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) and Bonnie (Kat Graham) share a glimmer of hope. Silas (Paul Wesley) fails to keep a promise, causing Damon to turn to Tessa (guest star Janina Gavankar) for help with his new plan, and Stefan makes a heartbreaking confession to Damon and Elena.”
This should at least be the episode to propel the story through the rest of its fall run, as there are some key moments that will be addressed in the story prior to the fall finale taking place in December. The show has to find a way to figure out how to make sense of all these doppelganger stories, and also set the stage for a spring season where something different could happen. (We’ve already heard that the fall finale is going to have a hilarious “Fifty Shades of Grey”-inspired title.)
One other thing worth noting here? That “glimmer of hope” for Bonnie and Jeremy. We have always felt it possible that she could come back from the dead, and maybe this is a sign that there are some good things to come courtesy of this very thing.
