‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5: Ian Somerhalder not the ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ connection now…

For the longest time, Ian Somerhalder was the subject of a series of various rumors surrounding whether or not he was going to be playing Christian Grey in an upcoming film adaptation of “50 Shades of Grey.” That did not end up happening for a variety of reasons, with one of the major ones being that there is a schedule already for “The Vampire Diaries” that would not line up with this gig in the slightest.

So what are we here to write about today then? A title for a “Vampire Diaries” episode coming up later this season (the 10th episode, and presumably the midseason finale) entitled “Fifty Shades of Grayson.” Yes, we imagine that this is at least in part the show having a little bit of fun with the fact that Ian was so frequently referenced in all of those stories. (The job eventually went to former “Once Upon a Time” actor Jamie Dornan.) We’re also pretty sure that they have no problem at all getting a little bit of extra publicity to boot courtesy of giving an episode a pretty creative name. Such things never hurt.

There is also a specific reason for this title, at least in terms of one of the characters and the show’s mythology. Remember here that Grayson Gilbert was Jeremy’s biological father, and also the man responsible for really raising and caring for Elena prior to the accident that took his life. We’re curious to see why the character is being brought back up into the consciousness now, even though we understand here that the hot theory is going to have a little something to do with the idea of there being flashbacks to him throughout this episode, or some sort of dark secret that was being hidden. We certainly cannot imagine seeing him being brought to life at this point; if there was, it would be somewhat maddening at the end of the day since we have already been convinced to move on.
