‘The Following’ season 2: Fox sets return date for Kevin Bacon series, ‘Rake’ premiere
When it comes to some of the plans that Fox has for this midseason, they seem to by and large revolve mostly around one thing: Trying to capitalize on almost every lead-in possible in an effort to promote their new and returning shows.
Case in point: Fox is already so proud of “Sleepy Hollow” that come Monday, January 20, they are going to use its finale in an effort to lead directly into the premiere of “The Following” season 2. Where this leaves fellow new series “Almost Human” remains to be seen, but this does give you a pretty good idea as to where the network’s priorities currently lie. The Kevin Bacon series was a big performer last year, and while we wonder if it can keep those same numbers now, it should at least get off to a pretty good start.
As for some other noteworthy dates…
-Freshman comedy “Enlisted” is going to premiere on Friday, January 10 at 8:30 p.m. Eastern, and we still have little expectation that it is going to be any sort of enormous hit.
– “Rake” starring Greg Kinnear is going to get a huge opportunity on Sunday, January 19 at 10:00, as it will premiere after the NFC Championship Game. There is hardly a better lead-in out there save for the Super Bowl. It will settle into its Thursdays-at-9:00 slot starting later in the week.
-For those of you who may have missed the memo, “Glee” season 5 is going on hiatus while “Rake” is on, but will return a little later in the spring where it will air the rest of season 5 straight through. This is a way to ensure that you really get the show without repeats (and reruns of “Glee” do terribly in the ratings).
There are no changes coming up to the Tuesday comedy block, which to us means that despite its ho-hum ratings, “Dads” is going to likely stick around for a full season. The only other option is that they manage to rush the John Mulaney series on the air, but that seems to be a little more likely for either May sweeps or next fall, depending on how the network chooses to go about doing things.
