‘The Americans’ season 2 spoilers: Does ‘Level Up’ star’s casting provide clues on plot?
When you want to see suggestions on what is coming up on a show like “The Americans,” you sometimes don’t have to look any further than the descriptions of a character joining the cast. In this case, that seems to be true more than ever.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Aimee Carrero, known best for her role on the Cartoon Network live-action show (as oxymoronic as that may be to say) “Level Up,” has been cast to play the recurring part of a “Sandinista freedom fighter” by the name of Chena. This is a bold suggestion that Nicaragua and some historical events will play a major part in season 2 of the FX show, which is interesting mostly in how it makes the international relations at the center of the show all the more complicated.
This news follows up the welcome revelation that Margo Martindale is going to find time in her busy schedule (currently occupied by “The Millers”) in order to appear on the show, which really needs all the help it can get. Quality-wise, this is a top ten show on TV right now. The issue? We’re not seeing that reflected in the ratings. In renewing “The Americans” in the first place, the hope was that some possible viewers would realize that this is something worth checking out, and therefore all flock to this show to see what all of the fuss is about. This is, after all, what turned “Breaking Bad” and even another FX show in “Sons of Anarchy” into substantial hits.
We’ll learn just what sort of impact the hiatus had on “The Americans” when the show returns next year, following the conclusion of the currently-controversial (and at times ridiculous) “American Horror Story: Coven.” There is no premiere date set at the moment, but there is also no reason to believe that the show is going to suddenly change things up and air at another time, unless of course they are trying to utilize a lead-in.
What do you think about the casting, and is there anything that you are trying to do in order to get more people to check out “The Americans”? Be sure to share some of your thoughts below!
