‘Doctor Who’ 50th anniversary special: Matt Smith narrates new ‘The Day of the Doctor’ video
Is the BBC doing everything in their power right now to get fan attention to a fever pitch for the “Doctor Who” 50th anniversary special? It certainly feels like it. The network is well aware of the universal hype out there for “The Day of the Doctor.” It’s a show that almost every longtime fan has been hoping to see, and for good reason when you remember that it combines David Tennant and Matt Smith, add John Hurt, and it gives us almost every valuable piece of history for the show over the course of a single episode.
The first thing that is clear upon watching this new trailer is just how stylized a look that the BBC is looking for here. This is not meant to be a special that is simply overlooked on November 23; not only is this projected to be one of the most-watched events in the history of the show, but it will be broadcast around the world at the same exact time. If that is not a cause for there to be some sort of epic teaser like the one below, we don’t quite know what is.
One of the other interesting facets of this clip is that it particularly highlights much of the character’s history, and then near the end accentuates both Clara and Matt Smith’s incarnation of The Doctor. It recognizes that the modern-day version of the character is still most important for the time being, just in case anyone needed reassurance that this is going to be Matt’s special more so than even David Tennant’s (as awesome as he may be). The two got the chance to film this earlier in the year, where they also bonded over their shared experience of playing one of the most iconic roles in the history of science fiction.
If this and every other piece of press material out there is proven right, we are in for one heck of a bumpy ride.
