‘White Collar’ season 5, episode 2 preview: Matt Bomer’s Neal and a new partner (video)

What's up next? -Did you enjoy the “White Collar” season 5 premiere tonight? The show accomplished quite a bit over the course of the hour, as it pushed forward the story of Peter getting his life back together, and Neal crafting some pretty unusual deals in order to do so.

But what comes next now could end up being one of the most-intense second episodes of the show that we have ever seen. The title for this hour is “Out of the Frying Pan,” and the primary plot here is that Neal Caffrey is really going to put his relationship with not just his employers to the test, but also Mozzie. Anytime that we have a story that throws Willie Garson into the forefront, that is something to celebrate. The man is one of the best things that this show typically has going for it, and here’s to hoping that this does not stop anytime soon:

“Peter assigns Neal a new handler; Neal’s loyalties are tested when an investigation may lead to Mozzie.”

In addition to what happens next when it comes to the show, we’re also almost equally curious to see how the series fares in the ratings this year. While coming on during the fall TV season would in some ways be terrible for a show, it may not be so bad here. Remember that Bomer has been tossed into all sorts of “Fifty Shades of Grey” casting rumors for quite a long time now, and the competition for the show is not actually that bad right now at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time. “Grey’s Anatomy” is a smaller hit than it once was, “Glee” was a repeat, and the comedies on CBS and NBC are mediocre at best. It would actually have more of an issue if it was airing in its Tuesday timeslot, which was where “The Voice” was previously placed.
