‘Doctor Who’ season 8 spoilers: Matt Smith films final scenes; Peter Capaldi steps in
The past month has likely been an emotional one for a certain Matt Smith. The star of “Doctor Who” not only recently started filming the Christmas special that is set to mark his end as the famous Time Lord, but based on the news that has already been revealed, it looks as though he has also already finished his duties. That means that Smith is now a free agent and can move on with his career, but while hopefully relishing some great times that he had on the set and with all of the great people that helped make this show into something spectacular.
The news of the end of filming for Smith was confirmed by multiple sources online (including executive producer Marcus Wilson), which also means that production has also likely filmed the first scene already with the new Doctor in Peter Capaldi. Tradition dictates that he would appear via regeneration at the end of the special, and we imagine that this is the cliffhanger fans will want and need to be excited about the show’s inevitable return later next year.
It’s almost ironic in a way that despite the fact that there has not been a new episode of this series on TV since the spring, the 50th anniversary of the show has led to more fan pandemonium and excitement than ever. There are tributes etched in everything from grass trimmings to food products, and we’re pretty sure that eventually, someone is probably going to try to sell a piece of toast on eBay that looks something like David Tennant’s face. Come November 23, the insanity will spike once again with the debut of the anniversary special, which airs simultaneously around the globe.
