‘Sleepy Hollow’ renewed for season 2; 13 more episodes to air next fall
We had felt like the race for more episodes was going to be down to three shows this fall (“The Blacklist,” “Sleepy Hollow,” and “Agents of SHIELD“), and we now have a winner for the first show to get it: “Sleepy Hollow.” In a statement today, Fox confirmed that their suspense thriller, and one of our personal favorites of the fall season, will be getting a 13-episode second season to air next fall.
What is particularly notable about this move is that it does represent a significant amount of growth for Fox, and the broadcast TV model. Rather than to just spread out a high-rated show’s order to 22, which gives it more coverage but also less time to compose good stories, Fox has opted instead to go with more of a cable model, which has worked for their sister station in FX. This will give viewers a chance to miss the show while it’s gone, and if public sentiment remains high on it, they will come back next year.
In a statement confirming the good news about the show coming back, Fox’s programming head Kevin Reilly had the following to say:
“The show has proven to be a risk well worth taking – it’s a conceptual blast unlike anything else on television and it all holds together with inventive writing and a fantastic cast.”
Here’s a little bit of an interesting fact for the show: When it comes to live+3 data, this is the best premiere for a Fox fall drama series in over a decade … seriously. That’s how long it has been since the network had this sort of a hit in the fall (though they did have one in the spring in “The Following”).
