‘Saturday Night Live’ writer John Mulaney’s show lands at Fox with series order

Do you want to see some more evidence of just how quickly Fox is losing faith in their current comedy lineup? Well, they have just officially ordered to series “Mulaney” (working title), the new comedy starring “Saturday Night Live” writer John Mulaney and producer by Lorne Michaels. This was a pilot that was originally at NBC, but was passed on this year and went over to Fox. Nasim Pedrad was at one point set to co-star, and if that still happens, it means that she could be the latest cast member to depart from the sketch show. (Given that the producers don’t seem to know what to do with her anymore, it’s hard to be upset about this.)

In a new statement confirming the news, Fox’s programming head Kevin Reilly had the following to say, and also confirmed that Martin Short will be joining the program as Mulaney’s boss:

“John is one of the sharpest and most skilled next-generation comedic voices out there, who also happens to be surrounded by the best of the best on this new show. I am personally thrilled to be working with Lorne Michaels again, a friend and show business hero who knows better than anyone how to build a show around talent. Add in the comedy magic of Marty Short and the seasoned hand of Andy Ackerman, and I believe we have the makings of something really special here.”

Mulaney is an extremely funny comic, and we’ve seen time and time again that this can translate well to a show. Add to that all of the products that Lorne has been involved with over the years, and you have a possible recipe for success. The major question now will just be when “Mulaney” will actually premiere, and we will have more on that when it becomes available.
